Hello readers. This blog is dedicated to that great British institution - revolution! Not the manning the barricades, fighting in the streets, waving a red flag and generally being bloody-minded kind of revolution, but the more gentle British art of moaning about it all. To this end I've decided to pose a few questions.
1) Why are most of my earnings taken up by taxation?
2) Where does all the money go?
3) Why are what used to be the public utilities (including transport and the hospitals) in such a mess despite several years of privitisation?
4) Why do politicians never talk about the things that concern me?
5) Why do politicians seem to live in an entirely different universe to the rest of us?
As a second strand to my low-key revolution I would also like to invite my readers to join my new political/social grouping dedicated to returning Britain back to its rightful owners - and I'm not talking about the English who are relative Germanic newcomers and should go back where they came from. No, I'm talking about the people who settled this area of the world just after the end of the last Ice Age - my ancestors who, since that time, have been colonised by the Romans, the English, the Vikings, the Normans and various other peoples with big swords and bad attitudes. Only those who can genetically prove their ancient British origins need apply.
My plan is to gather as many of these people together and approach the Court of Human Justice to demand restitution. As a means of identifying this new group we'll need a flag, a ntional anthem and a new religion. Suggestions for a flag and national anthem are welcome, but I already have an idea for a new religion. This involves worshipping a stick of wood on the basis that it is natural, is not a graven image and might prove useful for other functions (back-scratcher, fishing rod, walking stick etc). A new monetary system would be nice as well - I suggest basing it on the Dewey Decimal System (that should keep us busy for a while) and consideration as to whether we should join the EU, NATO and the United Nations. In terms of politics I suggest we should adopt the common-sense approach of our ancestors - taking a vote on policies and outlawing malefactors for crimes against the community. Lawyers, however, should be outlawed together with tax collectors, priests, and traffic wardens.
You get the sort of idea I'm sure - suggestions for getting this new group up and running will be welcome.
